The Toaster Project
Hello all,
Here’s an interesting, and amusing, modern-day illustration of the ideas put forward in I, Pencil.
If a man, from our modern-day civilisation, were to be relocated into that of a primitive society and assumes that he would be able to transform their society with his own knowledge and skills alone, he would be greatly mistaken. The Toaster Project is based on this scenario, demonstrating that if a man were “Left to his own devices he couldn’t build a toaster. He could just about make a sandwich and that was it.” (Mostly Harmless, Douglas Adams, 1992), As we know, it takes the knowledge and skills of an entire civilisation to make even a single pencil, let alone a toaster.
